Furry Friday Fun

Bubba and I are linking up with Me and My SoldierMan for another week of Furry Fun...click on the pic below to join in!

Our Bubba has a new game...

KING OF THE TRAMPOLINE!

We've had the huge trampoline (a wonderful gift from the boy's Godparents) for over a year. They brought it down and set it up just after the girl was born so the boy could get rid of some of that great toddler energy without needing me with him. But now, apparently, Bubba has decided it's his.

No. He doesn't jump. He just runs around in circles...also, the balls and sticks that are there are not there because of the dog. Bubba is your typical Rhodesian Ridgeback and isn't really into balls and sticks but he's more than happy to chase another dog who is chasing a ball or a stick.

He stands guard at the opening whenever the boy is outside because if the boy goes up, Bubba gets down. He's not into the jumping side of the trampoline.

We love our Bubba.

Friday Fun

In all the insanity of birthday fun, t-ball games and the Army doing what the Army does best...jack with plans, I haven't been able to post any of my new sewing accomplishments in a while so here's the latest...

Initially I planned on printing out a pattern I found on pinterest...

But then Murphy's Law struck and our printer died so I just eye-balled it and drafted my own pattern using the boy's large sketch pad. I'm happy with how it turned out on top but the skirt could be better...I'll just have to work on my skirt drafting skills.

*To give the skirt a more cupcake appearance, there's a teal pettiskirt under the skirt which I purchased for almost nothing at Halo Heaven. It's an awesome site a friend told me about...only downside is shipping is $10 unless you spend $20-then it's free! Also, their stock has been kinda low for a while when it comes to pettiskirts so if you see one you like, I recommend you grab it while you can.

Hope you have a great weekend!!!

Friday Fun

This week has been a rough a one but it's been a good reminder that time with our kids is so short and I'm taking advantage of every moment. This is the crazy fun princess that I wake up to every day...

Last night I asked her for a kiss before bedtime and she shook her head and said "no!" I was a little disappointed but at the same time, her independence makes me smile. She's not going to be an easy child to raise but she's going to be a beautifully independent, strong woman one day. And, just for the record, I did get a kiss blown to me for the first time just a few minutes after she said no so it all balanced out. She does her own thing in her own time (reason #37 why I'm grateful we've decided to homeschool...pretty sure she'd be "that" kid in class).

As for the boy, he had another T-ball game last night that went great. His buddy who has been struggling with the whole idea of "team" sports, really did great and with the exception of our boy running from his spot at third toward the dugout while yelling at the top of his lungs that his sister was all alone (Joshua and I were both in the outfield with his team) it was a good night. For the record, we did not leave the girl unattended. She was sitting with a friend. I managed to grab the boy mid-run and carry him back to third while explaining that his sister wasn't actually alone and he didn't need to rescue her. It's always an adventure with kids and I'm loving it.

Friday Fun

This week has been crazy but it's been a good crazy (well, except for the emergency run to the doctor yesterday for the boy but that's another story for another day-he's good and today we're focusing on the fun ahead).

Tomorrow is the boy's 4th birthday! I can't believe how big he is already. It's gone too fast. This week he helped me make Reese's Peanut Butter Bars. It was a blast having him help me with the recipe I found on pinterest. Although Joshua and the boy LOVE them, I'm just "in like" with them. I think it needs some sort of chocolate graham cracker crust.

Tomorrow we'll have a family day...going to see Brave and do basically whatever the boy wants. We'll have his "friend" party with extended family on Sunday at a bowling alley...thus the new shirt I made for the boy...

After the party, the kids are going to my parents' and Joshua and I are going to visit our best friends in El Paso. To say I'm excited would be a massive understatement. Joshua hasn't seen them in over a year and a half and the four of us haven't all been together without children since we had a weekend away in Tulsa and were able to see the Broadway show Wicked (highly recommended btw).

Hope you all have a great week and I'll be back in the blogging world in about a week.

Friday Fun

Well, today's fun isn't quite what I had in mind...I have a plan to get some really cute pics of the boy in town but unfortunately the weather just won't cooperate. So, instead, I thought I'd post some fun pics from yesterday's big adventure. The boy had his very first T-ball practice. He's one of the youngest but he hits really well (woohoo, proud Mommy). Unfortunately, he seems to have some trouble after hitting. Instead of running to 1st base, he wanted to run after the ball. It's something we're going to work on.

Friday Fun

Last Sunday morning when we woke up HOURS before I would have preferred thanks to the yellow ribbon event, this is what we woke up to...

Yup. A good chunk of the tree in our back yard collapsed. The amazing thing is that earlier in the day, Joshua had been talking about camping in the backyard with the boy and where the limb landed is exactly where they would have set up their tent. But since we had to get up super early for the yellow ribbon, they slept inside so in a way, the Army saved my boys from being hurt.

Not only were my boys kept safe, you might notice our baby swing is still good. The limb it's hung from is home to a nest of baby birds and their mommy. All (to our knowledge-we didn't want to get too close) seem to have survived.

(The Boy triumphant in his sawing abilities)
Joshua and the boy have begun chopping up the fallen portion of the tree and trimmed much of the rest of it back so it can't fall on anything or anyone else (like our dog when he's doing his thing). We're hoping that what's left of the sad tree with hold strong long enough for the baby birds to leave the nest later this summer.

(this is what we did while the boys worked)

Friday Fun

I've been a bit (ok, more than a bit) MIA this week. Lots and lots of craziness. Playdates, friends leaving for Africa, T-ball parent's informational meeting (totally uninformative btw), training for the half marathon, reconnecting with an old friend and about a dozen other things that I can't even remember right now. Anyway, I've been unavailable when it comes to blogging...replying to comments...reading other blogs...all of that fun stuff so I plan to take some time on this fabulous long weekend to sit at my computer and have some me time. But now is sadly not that time. The boy is going to my parents for the weekend...woohoo...so I have to go pack his monster (it really is a monster...green and everything) suitcase. I'll just leave you with some fun pics from one of this week's playdates at the zoo...

I made her dress and we bought the Minnie ears (through the Disney Store) from Disney World...saw them the last time we went but forgot to pick up a pair...put her hair in pigtails and then clipped the ears  on.

I know. She's adorable.

He LOVES her!

Our little Turtle (the boy's nickname) in front of the turtle exhibit.

My blue-eyed babies...if only they'd look at ME and my camera when they smile but no, that's not their style.

Ok. So this isn't technically a great pic but I love it because it's us. And it's real. The boy was concerned I'd let him fall backwards into the water (thanks for the vote of confidence kid) and the girl was annoyed at the sun (SO my daughter-you rarely see me without sun glasses or a hat unless like here it's for a picture).

Hope you had a great week and an equally wonderful long weekend. Let us always remember the reason for the holiday and those who gave everything so we could be free.

Friday Fun

I thought I'd start doing a quick weekly fun post on Fridays-not that all my posts aren't fun ;)

Most of the time I suspect it'll just be obnoxious charming Mommy Moments and picture highlights from the week.

This week's Mommy Moment came on Wednesday evening when we allowed our children to do something some may find to be irresponsible or flat out wrong...which is fine...we LOVED it. And for the record, we used my Suburban and Joshua's Jetta to block off the street and Joshua was never more than two feet away-just enough to be out of the picture frame.

Yes. We let our soon-to-be 4 year old pull his 10 month old (TODAY!) little sister in our bike trailer. That's how we roll.
